Snow Foam and Pre Wash
Snow Foam, Pre Wash and Traffic Film Removers (commonly known as TFR's) are used in the preparation stage.
The common purpose of the preparation products is to break down, loosen and lift as much dirt as is possible prior to the physical wash/shampoo stage.
Commonly called ‘touch less washing’ this stage negates the needs for any physical contact with the car hence greatly reducing the risk of inflicting swirls on the paintwork.
Snow Foam is designed to be applied through a Pressure Washer with a Foam Lance attachment; the product is ‘sprayed’ to the vehicles surfaces covering it in a layer of Foam suds. The Foam is allowed to dwell for a specified time and then removed by rinsing, again with the Pressure Washer.
Pre-Wash is similar to Snow Foam, intended to remove dirt prior to washing, but generally with a greater cleaning ability. Pre Wash is generally applied via Pump Sprayer, although can also be applied by Foam Lance.
The Snow Foam acts to loosen, encapsulate and lift any dirt particles from the paintwork. The product works best with a consistency that allows the foam to dwell, but gently ‘roll off’ the surface thereby removing dirt at the same time.
Snow Foam is available to you from a choice of manufacturers, varying in product size, colour and fragrance, to suit your personal preference.
Common observations are as follows;
“Thick Foam is better”
This isn’t the case; too thick a foam consistency may look great but it’s only the small amount that’s in contact with the vehicles surface that’s doing the work.
Follow Manufacturers Dilution Ratio instructions. This will ensure the correct amount of product is being applied to the panel and hence the Panel Impact Ratio (PIR) is correct.
As an example Bilt Hamber Auto Foam isn’t the most ‘foaming’ product we supply but is one of the most effective.
“I’ve Snow Foamed my car but it’s still dirty”
Snow Foam or Pre Wash isn’t a substitute for physically washing the car. The process is intended to remove as much dirt as is possible, thereby lessening the risk of damage, prior to the Wash stage.
“Pre Wash or Foam will strip my Wax”
Pre Wash and Snow Foam products are intended to clean and whilst some products are Ph Neutral others may be Alkaline up to Ph11. The Alkalinity of some products may therefore, when used neat or in high repeated concentrations, can affect the durability of your wax. The time taken to affect Wax durability is dependent on far too many factors to indicate any specific timescales.
